What's in a Name?

Ever since I read Cliff's blog about a story he wrote using a pseudonym he refuses to reveal (the tease), I started thinking about my own nomme de plume. Like Clifford, I've considered branching out into new territory, but would need a new name to go there. (Also like Cliff, said territory will remain unnamed, but let your own imaginations take you where you will.)

I was pondering this dilemma while checking my email when by the grace of God and Spam, two beauties fell right into my inbox: Ernestina Whoppingpenis and Clyde Thunderstick.

Now if only I could decide between the two...

On a more serious note, his idea of a complete, edited and submitted short story per month was a pretty good one. Ambitious, but not impossible. Go, Cliff! :)

Anybody else have writing goals for this year that they'd like to share?

HA! I nominate Ernestina Clyde.

My writing goal is to get un-stuck. I must write a scene featuring dozens of characters at a royal ball, which introduces a minor but pivotal character and sets the stage for the emotional evolution of a major character.

No biggie...I've only been struggling over the dang scene for a year.

**sigh**

I chose Michael August as a pseudonym because the contract on the project was signed in August, but more because I've faced "W" discrimination all my life and wanted to be on the top book shelf in stores.

TRAVIS: Ernestina Clyde, huh? Perhaps... :)

Good luck with your scene. It sounds ambitious. Maybe if you just focused on the new character?

SIDNEY: Good point. Maybe I should go with Norah Robert. ;)

Okay, Michael August for whatever genre you're writing now (you didn't say, and I assume it's outside your usual); Ernestina Clyde if you want to go into a female-oriented genre; and Thunderstick Whoppingpenis for porn.

Oops, the brain isn't working today. Duhhh. I just realized that Michael August is Sidney's pseudonym, not yours. Sorry! Erase erase erase...strike it from the list. Let's rephrase my prior comment to: Ernestina Clyde for a female-oriented genre--although, I must be honest, I don't like either "Ernestina" or "Clyde", but "Tina Clyde" sounds okay. And, as I said before, Thunderstick Whoppingpenis for porn. Or, as a female porn pseudonym, Thundertits Whoppingpussy. Or Whoppingtits Thunderpussy, etc., etc.

Thanks for all the great advice, guys (and gals). I just got another winner: Willie Phallusmountainus.

Ya gotta love spam sometimes. :D

I've published also under a pseudonym that will remain unnamed here. hum, I'm seeing a pattern.

Get some writing done is my main goal for the year.

Angus Meatsachs?

Colonel Angus (that old carpetbagger. ;)

Lol. I like the Thunderstick one...

See, I have to have a prayer of getting published before I worry about a pseudonym.

Details details.

Hah! I forgot about Colonel Angus! One of the better SNL skits as of late.

Clyde Thunderstick?! Aw man, now my usual nom de plume, nom de guerre, nom de what-have-you has some stiff competition...

Shall I adopt the name Thunderstick? Or shall I forever remain...

Buck Wylde?

Oh, god. You all are too funny.

Now I'm spoiled for choice. :-D

Pseudonym, hell, I'll settle for getting published under my own nym.

RK Sterling said...

Funny, Jon.

However, I suspect you suffer from a condition known as not-finish-and-submit-itis. I have it as well.

You need a link from this blog to your other blogs...

RK Sterling said...

LOL, Lana - I do have them, I guess they're just getting lost over there in the other links.

Scroll down to "Blogs & Fun People" on the right side, and you'll see the link to the Kate Sterling blog (my softer side) and Sterling Sternberg Assignments - writing assignments from Stewart.

Writing goal? Gosh, I'd love to finish my current WIPs so I can move on!

Good luck with that, Mohamed. I'm ordering Resolutino 786 - it sounds like something I would really enjoy.
